These clever writers have completed the 4 stages of the butterfly lifecycle by writing a stage each day.  They have published and illustrated their stories creatively.  A photo of these will be posted next week on the blog or come into Room 3 to see them.

The female butterfly lays the white eggs.  They lay the eggs in Spring.  They lay the egg under a leaf to keep it safe so birds don’t eat it.  The egg is little and the colour is white.  The egg is sticky so it can stick to the leaf.

First the egg hatches.  Out comes a caterpillar.  The caterpillar starts to eat.  It gets fatter and fatter until all of the old skin peels off.  Then it has new skin.

The caterpillar hangs from a leaf.  Then it spins silk around itself.  Now it spins a pupa.  The pupa is green and grey.  You might not see the pupa because it is camouflage.  It is really tough.

The pupa turns black.  The pupa cracks open.  The butterfly crawls out.  It sits so that it can dry its wings.  It will fly off and lay some more eggs.  That is the life cycle of the butterfly.

The egg is hatching into a caterpillar.  The caterpillar looks yellow and black and it looks cool.  It eats and eats and eats.  It gets fatter and fatter and fatter.  It hides under a leaf.

The caterpillar hangs from a leaf.  Then it spins silk around itself.  Then it turns into a chrysalis.  It is camouflaged.  It looks cool.  It is tough and it is green.

The cocoon turns black and then it cracks open in ten days.  It crawls out and it is a butterfly.  It sits and dries its wings.  It flies off and lays eggs.  It is a beautiful butterfly.

We have made these beautiful butterflies.

We have about 4 cocoons now in Room 3.  We were even lucky enough to watch one caterpillar spinning his cocoon right in front of us!!!

We have been doing some amazing goldfish stories and art work.

Room 3 - Our Goldfish and Butterfly Stories

Gold fish live in tanks.  We have lungs and they have gills.  Don’t feed them too much or they will get sick.
By Kaiden

If I was a goldfish I would hide under the pirate ship.  I would swim faster than a shark. I would do tricks.

Gold fish live in tanks or ponds.  Feed the fish a tiny bit of food.  Goldfish have gills to breath under the water.  The goldfish have fins to help them swim.  Weeds help clean the tank.  The filter helps clean the tank too.  Goldfish are greedy but you don’t give them lots of food.

Gold fish don’t have lungs like human beings.  They eat goldfish flakes.  You can clean the tank by hand or you can have special snails so they can clean the tank for you.  They need a special tube that blows bubbles under the water.  The tube gives them a little bit of air.  Weeds help them too.

Maths - Our Fruit Burst Investigation!

We did an investigation on Fruit Bursts this week.  We gathered data on peoples favorite Fruit Bursts (using tally marks) and presented our finding sin a bar graph.  We then counted the number of Fruit Bursts in 3 different packets.  We recorded our results in Two different forms of bar graphs.
We discovered that every packet was DIFFERENT!

We are doing statistics for Maths.  We are learning how to gather data by using tally marks.

We are watching the caterpillars getting fatter and fatter!

Team Work - Puzzle Time!

We talked about different ways to help us work successfully as a team.
We tried to use these skills in our teams when we had the task of completing a puzzle.
We enjoyed the feeling of success!
